Artist Statement

My work is fueled by a love for science fiction, a genre that enables me to explore the realms of imagination. The science fiction genre serves as a lens through which I can envision unreal possibilities, particularly focusing on the future for women. Within the uncharted galaxies and systems of the universe, I find joy in contemplating the untapped landscapes and the adventures that await exploration. My artwork serves as a conduit for escaping the present condition of humanity, offering a refuge in the dreamworlds I create amidst the vastness of outer space. It's a visual narrative that transcends reality, allowing me to convey the extraordinary within the ordinary.

Inspiration flows from science fiction in various forms—movies, books, and TV shows—that shape my vision of our future culture, shaped by evolving technologies and the exploration of new realms. Simultaneously, I draw inspiration from the unchanging core of human nature, observing the timeless aspects of our behaviors, interests, and interpersonal dynamics.

ASTRONAUT SERIES

One of the central objectives of my astronaut series is to champion women by portraying futuristic, highly fashionable female astronauts exuding control, strength, beauty and occasionally humor. I use a saturated palette of pastels and neons to evoke feelings of hope and whimsy, which mirror my idealistic approach to life. In my newest “Emergence” series, I’m exploring the separation and interpretation of our inner lives from the world. For each piece in this series I am using only my fingers, without any paintbrushes, to mix and apply paint directly to the surface creating a closer connection between myself and the work.

ABSTRACT SERIES

In my creative process for abstract work, I primarily use fluid acrylics, manipulated with generous applications of water to capture the essence of nature. By using mixed media including gouache, watercolor, paint pens, and oil pastel, I can experiment with diverse techniques and textures to visualize specific emotions within my abstract compositions. Mirroring nature, there are moments of precision coupled with moments of release

This series of work holds a personal significance for me, representing a period of upheaval and introspection in my personal life. The nonrepresentational nature of these pieces serves as a therapeutic outlet, enabling me to navigate through profound emotional challenges. Each piece reflects an emotional escape, creating imaginary space bodies that represent the complexities of my inner world. My art is not just a visual journey into the cosmos; it is a cathartic exploration of the emotional landscapes within.
