New earth series, 2017-2018
My latest series called “New Earth” was completed in May 2018 as part of the Art Fellowship at The Village Church. Exploding planets, glittering multicolored oceans, and floating orbs of light are used to ignite the imagination and feelings of wonderment associated with a new version of Earth. I use bright, saturated acrylic paint, oil pastel, and colored pencil in my intuitive creative process that involves spray bottles and knives. I begin the process of creating by using concentrated liquid acrylic paint applied directly onto the canvas or paper.
I wait and observe the paint and when I feel the paint has dried some but still went, I spray the paint with water to form a loose composition as well as mix the colors on the canvas. I continue spraying and moving the canvas until I’m pleased with the composition and colors. After this first layer is dry, I study the composition for glimpses of nature, which I then use as a template for building my imaginary worlds.
